[DipeGo] Seventeen's Official Japanese Debut
by. Suji Kim

"Are you all going to follow us"

"on our dreams?" (S.Coups)

"Seventeen is making their big debut in Japan!"

Below, are sets of pictures from the group's concert at the Yokohami arena in Japan on the 22nd. Seventeen had waited till the end of the concert to deliver the exciting news to their fans. The carats in the audience all held their breath in curiosity.

The concert was held live for fans to see online, making it all the more meaningful. Then, leader S.Coups broke the big news.

"Everyone, you all waited so long, right? The thought of a debut had crossed our minds countless times as we performed here. This is all possible due to all of you. Please continue to stay with us!"

"Oricon, Billboard, Nikkan Sports, BARKS, Natalie, CINRA, RO69, CD Journal, OK MUSIC, MUSICMAN NET, ZIP!, anan, Kstyle, SPRiNG, GLITTER, WOWOW, CINRA.NET, M-ON!Press, MTV, music.jp News, Excite Music, Kyodo, Talent Bank, OTOTOY and more.."

Japanese news and media outlets were sent into a frenzy upon the news of the group's debut. Seventeen had broke the news of a debut without further notice. It was to the point where a popular TV show had released an article on the news in the early hours of the morning.

"The debut feels like a dream" (Jeonghan)

"I'm super happy" (Joshua)

"Very NICE!" (Dino)

And the fans' reactions?

Congratulating the members on their success.

They clapped and continued to do so.

One might claim that a Japanese debut has lost its scarcity during the years Kpop idols have traveled to the country to do the same. However, it's different for Seventeen. The debut comes after three years after the group's official debut in the industry.

The boys were already well on their way to success. After the group's first concert in Japan in 2016, they followed up with four more. Although the boys hadn't officially made their debut in Japan yet, they had toured the country.

The reactions were explosive. Seventeen first stopped in Tokyo and Osaka. A total of 13,000 fans gathered that day. 50,000 fans gathered for their Yokohama concert, and 60,000 at the Saitama Arena.

Below is a picture from their Japanese debut in 2018. A total of 10,000 fans were present.

A handful of Kpop idols promote in Japan. However, one can't help but wonder why Japan is especially fixated on Seventeen. Below are questions we personally asked and answers we received.

"Seventeen wasn't very good at Japanese at first. However, as the day progressed, so did the boys and their English skills." (Kizuki, Shizuoka)

"That's true! I cried after listening to the Japanese version of 'Lean on Me.' It's nice to see them putting in effort for the Japanese fans!" (Lina, Nagano)

"I'm a longtime fan of the group. I like seeing them interact with the fans. It makes me feel a sense of unity when I see them perform." (Rinka, Tokyo)

"I love Seventeen so much, I feel like my heart is going to burst with happiness. I lose focus and I'd find myself crying. Their performances are simply breathtaking!" (Sara,Saitama)

"I've had my eyes on them since they took their very first steps on stage. Their fandom is steadily growing. Everyone has been waiting a while for their Japanese debut and we're all so happy.: (Momoka, Saitama)

"Seventeen is the #1 group in Japan. In all four concerts they did, a huge number of fans went to see them. The unit performances are especially amazing. They're fun." (Misato, Saitama)

Japanese Carats

Although the concert came to an end

they weren't able to

leave right away.

We totally understand

"Stunning appearances"

"Synchronization is very NICE"

"The fan service!"

A representative spoke in regard to the boys' Japanese skills.

"There are three units in Seventeen; hip-hop, performance, and the vocal team. They sometimes mix units as well. For fans who are already Kpop fans, it'll be an even more interesting experience."

Thank you

Their music (Seungkwan, Vocal team)

Performances (The8, performance team)

The fun and chemistry (Wonwoo· S.Coups, hip-hop team)

are all included in Seventeen!
