The Netflix drama 'Squid Game' continues to make history. Earning a total of 14 Emmy nominations, including Best Picture and Best Drama Series, ‘Squid Game’ is the first ever non-English project to win such a major category. It has made a mark in the K-drama industry.
The nominations are even more meaningful as it was competing with popular American shows such as ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Euphoria’, ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘Succession’, ‘Ozark’, ‘Severance’, and ‘Yellow Jacket.’
Lee Jung-Jae is in the running for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, nominated alongside Jason Bateman, Brian Cox, Bob Odenkirk, Adam Scott and Jeremy Strong.
Lee Jung-Jae spoke through his agency Artist Company to say, “I am truly grateful. It is such an honor to be listed with great actors.” He also added, “I will share this joy with fans around the world who have given me so much support, and also with the ‘Squid Game’ team who I sweated with.”
Park Hae-Soo and Oh Young-Soo are both in the running for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Jung Ho-Yeon has been nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Jung Ho-Yeon shared her thoughts via her agency and said, "it is even more meaningful to be nominated for my first debut as an actress and the fact that this is the first time for Korea to be nominated an Emmy, which boasts the highest authority in broadcasting industry.”
Additionally, Director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, who directed and wrote the screenplay for 'Squid Game', was nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Lee Yoo-Mi was nominated for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
The other awards for which 'Squid Game' has been nominated this year include Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, and Outstanding Stunt Performance.
