SM Entertainment's idol training center "SM Universe" has entered Daechi-dong, known as the first place of private education in South Korea
Real estate industry on the 14th reported that SM Universe Academy is set to open on March 15 on Yeongdong-daero, Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It was adjacent to Daechi-dong Academy Street, which is considered "Education No. 1 in South Korea."
This academy uses a total of eight floors, two basement floors to six ground floors, among the three basement floors to nine ground floors. The size of the entrance students is 120 students per semester, with 40 vocals and 20 other courses.
The admission fee is rather high. In the case of vocal courses, it is 10 million won per semester. Excluding the vacation period, you have to pay 2.5 million won a month.
Other courses are 8.8 million won per semester.
Not everyone can enter the school. Entrants are selected through documentation and auditions.
It also operates on a three-year semester system. As such, it is difficult to combine with the elementary, middle, and high school curriculum. We also run a qualification exam for the main target group, "high school students who dream of becoming artists."
Jongno Academy(private institute in South Korea) is in charge of the qualification exam. This is because SM Universe was created in collaboration with SM and Jongno Academy.
An official from SM Universe Academy said, "The qualification exam course consists of three hours of lectures per day in the beginning." As lectures continue from the morning to the afternoon, dropouts will be the main focus as it is difficult to join the regular academic process, they said.
Meanwhile, Jang Jae-ho, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of SM Entertainment, was the CEO of SM Universe Academy. Former SM executive producer Lee Soo-man, SM CEO Lee Sung-soo, Kangta, Bada, and Yunho were mentioned as mentors for the academy.
