On May 9th, Instagram converted the late Moonbin’s account into a memorial account. When accessed via mobile, the Korean word 'choomo' (meaning memorial) appears at the top of the profile.
When the ‘memorial’ word is clicked on, the account displays the message "In memory of Moonbin." It is described as a "a memorialized account to remember and celebrate someone’s life after they have passed away.”
The posts that the deceased uploaded during their lifetime will remain unchanged. Measures are also being taken to protect the account. Previously, the Instagram accounts of K-pop stars Jonghyun, Sulli and Goo Hara were also converted into memorial accounts.
Moonbin was found dead at his home in Gangnam-gu on April 19th. The funeral was held privately and his agency Fantagio have set up a memorial space in front of the office which will be open for fans until June 6th.
The late Moonbin made his debut in the music industry as a member of Astro in 2016. In addition to his music activities, he was a much loved celebrity as an all-rounder.
