American HBO series 'The Idol' made its premiere broadcast in North America on June 5th and is gathering attention worldwide.
However, the inclusion of some provocative dance scenes is the talk of criticism.
As much as this series marks the debut of Blackpink’s Jennie as an actress, the series has been a hot topic for both local and global fans.
Jennie portrays the role of Diane, who is the friend and back dancer of Jocelyn (played by Lily Rose Depp). In the first episode, Jennie shoots for a music video in the drama. During the shoot, Jennie dances in close proximity with male dancers in a highly provocative way.
'The Idol' is a total of six episodes set in Los Angeles, USA. It portrays the dark side of pop idol stars and Hollywood's cultural industry.
Recently, 'The Idol' was invited to the 76th Cannes International Film Festival. On May 23rd, two episodes were screened at the Lumière Grand Theater in Cannes, Southern France.
However, right after its premiere, the episodes received criticism from critics. The sexual scenes were deemed ‘explicit’ and ‘excessive.’ As of yet, 'The Idol' has received evaluations such as 'provocative’, 'vulgar’, ‘offensive’ and ‘discriminatory' from various media outlets.
