Variety reported on August 28 that the American HBO series 'The Idol' has been canceled after one season.
"'The Idol' was one of HBO's most provocative original programs, and we're pleased by the strong audience response," said a spokesperson for HBO.
Released on June 4, 'THE IDOL' is a series about pop idols. Singer The Weeknd and director Sam Levinson, who directed HBO's 'Euphoria', participated in the co-production.
As the female director, Amy Seymets, has exited as director, many scenes were reshot and a significant part of the script was revised. The series has been criticized for being suggestive, misogynistic, and playing like a sordid male fantasy.
'The Idol' has also garnered attention in Korea for BLACKPINK Jennie's acting debut. She played Diane, a back-up dancer for pop idol Lily-Rose Depp (Jocelyn).
