Seventeen Apologizes for Great Wall Controversy, Promises to be More Cautious

Seventeen promptly addressed the controversy related to the Great Wall of China. They deleted the problematic teaser video and issued an official apology.

On September 24th, Pledis Entertainment released an official statement on their social media regarding the "Seventeen Mini 11th Album Beijing Teaser Video." They explained that the video featured a Beijing version of "SVT Right Here," part of the promotion content for Seventeen's 11th mini-album, "Seventeenth Heaven." The teaser video was filmed in various locations, including Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, New York, and Beijing.

However, some individuals expressed dissatisfaction, particularly on Chinese social media platform Weibo, claiming that the use of the Great Wall of China for album promotion was inappropriate. They mentioned the policy against commercial use of the Great Wall.

The agency acknowledged the fans' concerns, stating that there was a lack of cultural understanding and respect regarding the Great Wall of China in the video. Consequently, they swiftly deleted the video and apologized. 

They also promised to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, saying they would pay more attention to detail. In their closing statement, Pledis Entertainment expressed their commitment to creating content that can be enjoyed by fans from various cultural backgrounds and regions, emphasizing their dedication to making content accessible to fans worldwide.

We would like to provide an update regarding the Seventeen Mini 11th Album "Seventeenth Heaven" Beijing Teaser Video.

On September 23rd at 2:14 PM local time in China, we released the teaser video for " SVT RIGHT HERE" Beijing version, which is one of the promotional contents for Seventeen's Mini 11th Album "Seventeenth Heaven."

The Beijing version was created with the Great Wall of China, a representative cultural heritage of China, as the background, featuring the imagery of camellia flowers blooming. However, after the video was released, there were concerns from our fans that there was a lack of cultural understanding and respect regarding the Great Wall of China.

In response to this, we promptly deleted the Beijing version video. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our fans and promise to be more attentive in the future.
