Actor Rowoon is taking on a challenging role in a comic historical drama. He will be starring in the new KBS-2TV drama 'The Matchmakers' and embarking on a remarkable acting transformation.
On the 10th, Rowoon shared his thoughts on appearing in 'The Matchmakers.' From his reasons for taking on this role, his affection for the character, and his chemistry with fellow actors, he discussed various aspects of his participation, marking his second historical drama appearance following 'The King's Affection.'
'The Matchmakers' is a comedy-melodrama set in the Joseon era, telling the story of Shim Jeong Woo (played by Rowoon) and Jeong Soon Deok (played by Cho Yihyun), who mediate in a wedding.
Rowoon expressed, "I wanted to try the comedy genre," explaining his reasons for choosing this project. He added, "In fact, the comedy genre is the most challenging, but it was the genre I always wanted to appear in."
Rowoon portrays Shim Jeong Woo, known as the most ill-fortuned man in Joseon. He is a character facing a string of misfortunes as the princess passes away during the wedding, and he finds his path in life blocked. He is both a principled individual and a Confucian scholar.
Describing his character, Rowoon said, "Shim Jeong Woo is like a child frozen in time," and "His candid demeanor might appear impolite." He added, "I didn't want to set limits on the character by trying to find similarities with myself."
He put a lot of thought into portraying the character. Rowoon mentioned, "The language and expressions of Shim Jeong Woo, stemming from the historical setting, are slightly different from today," and "I tried to express those aspects without making them seem unpleasant."
'The Matchmakers' marks Roh Woon's second attempt at a historical drama, following his successful appearance in the 2021 drama 'The King's Affection.' He expressed his desire to show a different personality and situation in this project, stating, "The character and situation are different from the previous work. I want to appear as a different person."
He also praised the chemistry with his co-star Cho Yihyun. He said, "I wanted to work together, and it's an honor to be able to do so this time," and "The image of Jeong Soon Deok that I imagined is really similar. I'm enjoying filming very much."
Finally, Rowoon appealed to viewers, saying, "This is a project that the staff and actors have been working hard on, laughing and making together since the hot summer. I would be grateful if you could wait a little longer."
