BLACKPINK member Jennie is embroiled in a controversy over indoor smoking.
Recently, social media and online communities have been abuzz with a video showing Jennie using an e-cigarette indoors.
The video, which was part of Jennie's vlog uploaded on her YouTube channel, shows her getting her makeup done in a dressing room while using an e-cigarette. The video was taken during an overseas schedule and has since been deleted.
The controversy stems from the fact that Jennie was smoking an e-cigarette while a makeup artist was working on her face. Netizens criticized her for exhaling smoke in the makeup artist's face, with comments such as, "How can she blow smoke right in front of someone's face?" "It's disrespectful to the staff," and "I am a smoker, but I would never do that."
According to South Korea's National Health Promotion Act, all office buildings, factories, and mixed-use buildings with a total floor area of 1,000 square meters or more are designated as non-smoking areas. Violating this rule can result in a fine of up to 100,000 won. However, e-cigarettes without nicotine are classified as 'tobacco-like products' and are not subject to this fine. Since Jennie was overseas and using an e-cigarette, she is not expected to face legal repercussions.
