BTS member Jin has spoken about his return from military service and his love for Army (his official fandom name).
In an interview published through fan platform Weavers Magazine on Tuesday, Jin said, "I have to do it," and "I'm not going to breathe because the air is bad," in response to the group's plans to hold a BTS festival the day after his discharge.
Jin was discharged from active duty in the Army on 12 June. He attended the '2024 Festa' on 13 June, the day after his discharge, to meet and hug the Army in person, creating a buzz.
"It was a lot of pressure and hard work," he said of the BTS Festa, adding, "It wasn't really easy because I wasn't outside or had enough time to prepare, so it wasn't really easy, I just did it out of love." He shared his sincere feelings for the Army.
"I don't feel like I'm out of the military because I still feel like I'm on holiday, I still feel like I'm going to have to go back into the unit," he said.
"I still get sleepy around 10 or 11 p.m., but I think I'm getting used to it quickly because I'm still working and going to bed late and waking up at 5 a.m.," he said, adding, "I've been out of the military for about eight days (as of the interview), and I've been working all but one day."
"I didn't even know that he was playing saxophone on the sidelines, and I found out later that the BGM was 'Dynamite' when I saw it on the internet," he recalled, adding, "Because I'm a teaching assistant, I often hear the saxophone recorded by the military band at graduation ceremonies and induction ceremonies, so I thought they played that song for me to leave the military."
Today, all of the members are still in the military, except for Jin. "The members kept telling me that they were really envious of me, and the protocol team who were watching from the side told me that they had never seen such genuine envy in the eyes of other members before, and that all the members saw it," Jin laughs, "so I didn't brag about it, I just made fun of them a lot, and they were so pissed off and responded well, so I made fun of them for about half an hour."
Jin, who debuted in 2013 and has been loved by Army for 11 years, was asked, "How can you do your best every day for 11 years?" He replied, "Because BTS loves Ami so much," and added, "It's natural to do your best for someone you love.
Meanwhile, Jin was recently confirmed as a torchbearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
