StrayKids have set a first on the Billboard charts.
US Billboard posted a preview article for the chart (dated 3 August) on its website on the 29th (KST). "STRAYKIDS' 'ATE' debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200," it said.
The Billboard 200 is the main album chart. It is ranked by combining physical album sales, streaming equivalent sales (SEA units), and music download equivalent sales (TEA units).
According to Billboard, "ATE" has sold 232,000 album units. Of those, 218,000 are physical copies. SEA units were 13,000 and TEA units were 1,000.
Album sales in the U.S. drove the album to the top spot. It is the best-selling K-pop release of the year. In terms of overall album sales, it is the sixth best-selling album of all time.
It was also their fifth consecutive No. 1 debut. This is a record for any group in the world. They first entered the chart with "ODDINARY" in March 2022.
Their subsequent releases have also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. These include their seventh mini album "MAXIDENT," their third regular album "FIVE STAR" (★★★★★), and their eighth mini album "ROCKSTAR" (樂-STAR).
The agency said, "StrayKids wrote a record that is 'first for a global group'. With 'ATE', they have realised their grand ambition of 'chewing up the global music market'."
"ATE" is StrayKids' first comeback of the year. The title track is "Chk Chk Boom" (Chk Chk Boom). It expresses the group's confidence in aiming precisely for their goal.
It dominated the global charts. StrayKids' "Chk Chk Boom" was ranked at No. 30 on the English Official Singles Chart Top 100. It also topped the French Phonogram Association's latest album chart.
Meanwhile, StrayKids will kick off their new world tour "dominATE" next month at the Casepo Dome at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
