The group Stray Kids has been nominated for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) for the third consecutive year at the American pop music awards ceremony.
As announced by MTV VMA on its official website and social media channels on the 6th (local time), STRAY KIDS has been nominated in the Best K-Pop category for "Rock (樂)," the title track from their November 2023 mini album "樂-STAR" (Rockstar). They were first nominated in the Best K-Pop category in 2022 for "MANIAC," the title track from their mini album "ODDINARY," and were announced as the winners of the category in 2023 for "Special," the title track from their third studio album "★★★★★ (5-STAR)" (Five Star). This is the third consecutive year they have been nominated in the same category at this year's MTV VMAs, proving their strong influence.
The MTV VMAs, which began in 1984 and has a storied history, is considered one of the four major American music awards shows alongside the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. After taking home trophies at the 2024 People's Choice Awards in February and the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards in April, STRAY KIDS has continued its streak of wins and nominations at major music awards shows this year.
After releasing their mini album "ATE" and title track "Chk Chk Boom" on 19 July, the group recently debuted videos for their new album tracks on the group's official YouTube channel. The video for the new album's opening track "MOUNTAINS", released on 29 July, shows the eight members looking majestic and energetic, in keeping with the song's mood of reasoned confidence of the Stray Kids at the top of the mountain. The majestic visuals, which borrowed from mythological elements, combined with the majestic sound, enhanced the song's appeal.
On 1 August, the group posted the video for "Stray Kids" from the new track 7. The video was interspersed with Easter eggs reminiscent of the various activities that led to the current Stray Kids through the medium of an elevator, which gave STAY (fandom name: STAY) a special feeling. On the afternoon of the 7th, they opened the music video for "JJAM," a song from their new album, and delivered an impact with a spooky atmosphere reminiscent of a horror film, the members' comedic performances, and powerful military moves.
STRAY KIDS has been achieving remarkable results on multiple albums and music charts with "ATE," a work that expresses the group's ambition to "chew up the world music market. The album debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 main chart, setting a record for the group to reach the top spot five times in a row, following two mini-albums "ODDINARY" and "MAXIDENT" released in 2022 and their third full-length album "★★★★★ (5-STAR)" and mini album "樂-STAR" released in 2023.
They will be holding four solo concerts at KSPO DOME (Olympic Gymnastics Stadium) in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul, on 24-25 August and 31-1 September, as well as launching their new world tour, "Stray Kids World Tour <dominATE>" (dominate).
