STAYC, Strong Response to Deepfake Sexual Crimes

STAYC has drawn their sword against deepfake sexual crimes. They plan to respond strongly to the production and distribution of malicious illegal videos.

On the 6th, High Up Entertainment announced, "We will take legal action without leniency against deepfake productions targeting STAYC."

The agency said, "We are seriously aware of the current situation," and "We will continue to monitor indiscriminate illegal acts targeting artists."

They then warned, "We will thoroughly respond to all illegal acts that damage the reputation of artists."

Recently, a large number of cases of deepfake damage have been revealed. Deepfake is a compound word of 'deep learning' and 'fake'. It refers to AI-based synthetic videos.

However, it has been abused for crimes. The number of victims is rapidly increasing by synthesizing pornographic material onto women's faces or bodies.

According to the American cybersecurity firm Security Hero, 53% of the victims of deepfakes distributed last year were Korean. The majority were female celebrities.

(G)I-dle, Blackpink, and Twice have announced a strong response. They all say there will be no leniency. They are taking strong legal action, including criminal proceedings.
