The Global ARMY (BTS) fandom coalition has issued a joint statement in support of all seven members of BTS's Suga, who are facing calls from some fans to leave the group for drunk driving on an electric scooter.
“Recently, a small group of people have been conspiring and circulating demands against the wishes of the majority of ARMY through the media as if it is the opinion of the entire ARMY,” the 127-member Global ARMY coalition from 58 countries around the world said in a statement on Monday.
“Despite the fact that domestic and international ARMYs have repeatedly expressed their disagreement with the arbitrary behavior of the group behind the anonymity, they continue to act against the position of the fandom in the name of ARMY,” the statement continued. “In this situation, it was also found that fans of other idol groups led the group, so we would like to clarify the position of the Global ARMY Coalition at home and abroad.”
In the statement, the Global ARMY Coalition said: “A group that claims to represent the fandom while ignoring the opinions of the majority of ARMYs cannot speak for ARMYs; the Global ARMY Coalition demands that they stop misusing the ARMY name; the Global ARMY Coalition supports all seven members of BTS; and the Global ARMY Coalition does not hold members accountable beyond the results of due process.
Earlier, Suga was sent to the prosecutor's office for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on August 6. The incident led some fans to suggest that Suga should leave BTS.
