NewJeans’ Hanni has expressed her intention to attend the upcoming National Assembly audit.
On October 9th, Hanni shared through the fan communication platform Phoning, "I’ve made my decision. I will attend the National Assembly," and added, "I will attend the upcoming National Assembly audit alone."
Explaining her reason for deciding to attend, she said, "There’s no need to worry. I want to go for myself, the (NewJeans) members, and the Bunnies (fandom name)."
She also mentioned that she has yet to inform her agency, ADOR, about her decision. "My manager and the company don’t know yet," she said, adding, "This is the right thing to do. I’ll do well and come back."
Hanni emphasized that this decision is for NewJeans and their fans. "I’m not sure how things will turn out, but it will be a learning experience," she said, adding, "I will protect NewJeans and Bunnies."
The National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee held its third full meeting on September 30th, during which it discussed the attendance of witnesses and references for the upcoming audit.
Hanni, along with ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin and 35 others, has been selected as a witness or reference. She is scheduled to attend the audit of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Economic, Social, and Labor Council on October 25th.
Chairman Ahn Ho-young of the Environment and Labor Committee explained the reason for her selection, stating, "We will take a closer look at the dark side of K-pop, workplace harassment, and the conditions of workers outside labor law protections."
Hanni is expected to attend the audit as a reference and will be questioned on related topics. On that day, she will explain directly to the committee members about the unfair treatment she has claimed to have experienced within the company.
