"Everything, a perfect movie"... Uprising, global viewership skyrockets

The Netflix film Uprising (directed by Kim Sang-man) has garnered global acclaim beyond its domestic success.

Since its release on the 11th, Uprising has recorded 7.5 million views (calculated by dividing total viewing time by the film's runtime) within just three days. It has also climbed to 3rd place in the Global Top 10 Movies (Non-English) category.

In South Korea, it ranks 1st. Additionally, it has landed in the Top 10 in a total of 58 countries, including France, Portugal, Sweden, Brazil, and Japan.

On the 16th, Uprising's production team also released behind-the-scenes and unpublished stills. The images include Kang Dong-won (as Cheon-young) performing high-level action scenes using wires, and Park Jung-min (as Jong-ryeo) showcasing a fiery, intense gaze.

Cha Seung-won (as King Seonjo) dominates the atmosphere of the set with his mere presence, and his shocked reaction upon seeing severed noses in a box is particularly striking.

Kim Shin-rok (as Beom-dong) delivers a powerful kick in mid-air, while Jung Sung-il (as Genshin) exudes a threatening aura in full Japanese armor as the vanguard commander. He also portrays a chilling demeanor in Joseon attire.

Uprising is an action historical drama set against the backdrop of the Japanese invasions of Korea (Imjin War). It tells the tragic story of Jong-ryeo, the son of the greatest warrior family in Joseon, and his servant Cheon-young, who grew up together.

Jong-ryeo, now the king's closest military official, and Cheon-young, who has become a militia leader with the people's support, meet again. The story escalates with Genshin's involvement, leading to a fateful showdown.

In a word, it's a well-made film. The spectacular sword fighting is particularly captivating, with Kang Dong-won and Park Jung-min's long sword action being a highlight. The three-way sword duel involving Jung Sung-il is also meticulously crafted.

The narrative is solid as well. It delves into the conflicts arising from class differences, the Imjin War, misunderstandings between Jong-ryeo and the king, Seonjo's suspicion and narrow-mindedness, and the deep friendship between the two protagonists, all with careful detail.

The horrors of the Imjin War are also vividly portrayed. The film accurately depicts the burning of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the starving populace, and the Japanese soldiers who cut off Koreans' noses.

Uprising is currently streaming on Netflix.
