BLACKPINK’s Rosé revealed the story behind the making of her new track 'APT' (Apartment).
On October 22, 'Vogue Japan' featured Rosé as a guest, showcasing her interactions with the audience.
During the appearance, Rosé shared, “Actually, 'APT' is based on a Korean drinking game. I really enjoy playing this game with friends,” she said. “While hanging out with friends at the studio, I introduced them to this game along with other games, and everyone got hooked.”
She went on to explain, “After playing the APT game, we ended up making the song. But once I got home, I felt uneasy. I started worrying, ‘Is it okay to make a song about a drinking game? Is it too unserious?’”
Rosé further revealed, “When all the producers and composers were gathered, I even asked them to delete the file from my phone. But instead, some people started playing the song, and I realized many were already addicted to it.” She concluded, “Knowing that, I went ahead and completed the song.”
Rosé also shared an experience with Bruno Mars, saying, “Last year, Bruno Mars performed in Seoul. I’ve always admired him, so I went to the concert with a friend. Later, Bruno Mars joined the project and had incredible ideas for the song.”
On October 18, Rosé released the single 'APT. (ROS? & Bruno Mars)' along with its music video. This track, which is part of her upcoming first full-length solo album 'rosie,' was pre-released as a single ahead of the album’s official release on December 6.
In a previous Vogue interview, Rosé mentioned, “The song was inspired by APT, one of my favorite Korean drinking games.”
Rosé debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016 and officially launched her solo career in 2021 with the release of the single 'R.'
