THE BOYZ’s Sunwoo was recently assaulted by a sasaeng fan, who has since been detained on-site.
On the afternoon of the 14th, IST Entertainment posted a statement on the group’s official fan cafe, stating, “There have been continuous incidents involving the invasion of our artist’s privacy and threats to their safety.”
The agency detailed that some fans have gone to extreme lengths, including unauthorized visits to private locations such as the company building, shops, and members’ residences. There have also been cases of individuals tracking private schedules, spreading malicious rumors, and engaging in other invasive behavior.
Serious incidents occurred during international flights and at airports, where fans attempted to photograph and film the members by forcefully approaching their paths and even following their vehicles. Some individuals illegally obtained private information to contact the members directly.
On November 9, Sunwoo was reportedly assaulted by a sasaeng fan. According to IST Entertainment, the incident occurred when Sunwoo was entering his residence after finishing his schedule. The sasaeng fan had hidden in the emergency staircase on Sunwoo’s floor and approached him as he was about to enter his front door.
Feeling threatened, Sunwoo immediately informed a staff member of the incident. The sasaeng fan was detained by Sunwoo, the staff, and company personnel before being handed over to the police. During the process, the fan attempted to escape and allegedly attacked Sunwoo and the staff multiple times.
IST Entertainment confirmed, “The individual was detained on the spot for trespassing and assault, and the police are currently investigating.”
After the incident, Sunwoo and the staff members involved visited a nearby hospital for medical examination and treatment. The agency assured, “We are prioritizing Sunwoo’s health and well-being and are closely monitoring his condition.”
Furthermore, a tracking device was discovered on one of THE BOYZ’s vehicles, and another vehicle’s tire was intentionally damaged. The agency has since reported these incidents to the police, providing CCTV evidence for investigation.
“We were fortunately able to detect these incidents early, which allowed us to prevent further harm,” the agency said.
IST Entertainment reiterated that they would uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards violations of the artists’ privacy and safety, emphasizing, “There will be no leniency or settlement for actions that infringe upon our artists’ rights.”
