(G)I-DLE's Jeon Soyeon Addresses Contract Renewal Rumors
On November 27, the YouTube channel 'df' uploaded a video titled "Speaking Out on Contract Renewal Controversy."
In the video, Jeon Soyeon addressed misunderstandings surrounding her, saying, "I have friends and my parents too, and I hope they don't misunderstand. But since I've already debuted, I don't really care much if the public or fans have misunderstandings."
She continued, "At first, it felt so unfair. I would write 16 lines of lyrics, and just one three-character word could spread and turn into a completely different story. Even if you just read the context, you'd know that's not the case," she explained. "Now, I just think, 'Oh, I see.' The people who say and believe those things aren't really interested in me. But it does hurt when my acquaintances see it and misunderstand," she admitted.
Previously, Jeon Soyeon performed her solo stage "Is This Bad B**** Number?"** during (G)I-DLE's world tour concert held in August at the KSPO Dome in Seoul. During the performance, she included the lyrics, "Contract ends in November. Who's going to stop me?" which sparked concern among fans and the public regarding the group's future activities.
Addressing the matter, Soyeon commented, "Honestly, I didn't think it would become an issue. I didn't think much about it," she admitted. "Sometimes, I write music like a novel, but that performance was more personal. So I said, 'My contract ends now, right? The contract is ending.' I didn't think much of it, so I was really surprised," she said with a laugh.
Jeon Soyeon also addressed the rumors regarding her contract renewal with her agency. She revealed that the matter is currently "under discussion" and added, "Nothing has been decided yet. My members and I want to create music in the best environment possible, so the discussions are taking time. We're thinking about how we can have the most fun while doing it."
She continued, "As a producer, leader, and now in our seventh year, I feel like a mom. They feel like my kids, my closest friends, and I'm trying to find a way for us to continue together." Soyeon further expressed, "I want to resolve this as soon as possible, hopefully by November. I want to end this period of being 'agency-less' quickly,"but refrained from sharing further details.
