Taeyeon of Girls' Generation continues her battle against malicious commenters.
On December 2, SM Entertainment issued an update regarding the legal action being taken against individuals responsible for defamatory, insulting, and sexually harassing posts and comments about Taeyeon.
An SM representative stated that, in addition to fan reports, the company has been independently monitoring and collecting evidence of malicious online activity targeting Taeyeon. The collected data amounts to thousands of cases.
The agency explained, "Based on the gathered materials, we have been continuously filing hundreds of complaints with investigative agencies for charges including defamation and insult."
They also shared updates on cases where offenders have been identified. "Many suspects have been identified, and investigations are underway," SM Entertainment announced, reiterating its commitment to strict measures against perpetrators.
Recently, two cases were concluded, according to SM. One involved "a conditional suspension of indictment with mandatory educational courses issued by the probation office," while the other case resulted in "no charges due to the suspect's death."
For incidents involving minors, SM clarified, "In several cases involving underage suspects, resolutions were reached with parental involvement, including the submission of letters of reflection."
There will be no leniency for adult offenders. "Cases involving adults have resulted in punishments such as fines and suspensions of indictment. We are currently pursuing the remaining cases," the agency emphasized.
In closing, SM Entertainment vowed, "We will continue to take uncompromising legal action against malicious rumors and defamatory posts about Taeyeon. Protecting our artists will remain our top priority."
