Netflix's "Squid Game" Season 2, directed and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk, has been nominated for Best Television Series - Drama at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globes announced its nominees on December 9 (local time). "Squid Game 2" is in contention for the award alongside FX's "Shōgun," Netflix's "The Diplomat," Apple TV+'s "Slow Horses," Prime Video's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and Peacock's "The Day of the Jackal."

The nomination comes ahead of the show's official release, scheduled for December 26. Foreign outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter noted that it's rare for a series to receive a nomination before airing.

"Squid Game 2" follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he seeks revenge and reenters the deadly games, facing off against the enigmatic Frontman (Lee Byung-hun). The season promises new games, characters, and storylines.

The first season of "Squid Game" garnered major recognition at the 79th Golden Globe Awards in 2022, with Oh Young-soo winning Best Supporting Actor in Television. It was also nominated for Best Television Series - Drama and Best Actor in Television (Lee Jung-jae) but didn't secure the awards.

The most-nominated work for the 82nd Golden Globes is "Emilia Perez," directed by Jacques Audiard, which received 10 nominations, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Actress, and Best Foreign Language Film.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 5, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
