BTS's Jungkook Proves Global Popularity Even During Military Hiatus
The 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) took place on December 13 (KST) in Los Angeles, where Jungkook claimed two awards, showcasing his immense global influence.
Jungkook won Top K-Pop Album with "Golden" and Top Global K-Pop Song with "Standing Next to You", further emphasizing his dominance in both streaming and album sales.
This marks Jungkook's second consecutive year winning in the same category. At the 2023 BBMAs, he secured Top Global K-Pop Song with "Seven" (feat. Latto), reaffirming his worldwide appeal.
This year, Jungkook was nominated in five categories, the most for any K-pop artist: Top Song Sales Artist, Top Selling Song, Top Global K-Pop Artist, Top K-Pop Album, and Top Global K-Pop Song.
Notably, Jungkook was the only K-pop artist nominated in the Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song categories. However, while he won two awards, he fell short in three categories, including Top Global K-Pop Artist.
Jungkook's "Golden", released in November last year, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's main album chart, the Billboard 200, and has remained on the chart for 24 weeks. This marks the longest-charting album by a Korean solo artist.
The title track, "Standing Next to You", debuted at No. 5 on the Hot 100, becoming Jungkook's sixth solo entry on the chart, further cementing his status as a global pop sensation.
With "Seven", "3D" (feat. Jack Harlow), and "Standing Next to You", Jungkook has achieved three Hot 100 Top 10 hits. He is the only Korean solo artist to have three songs enter the Top 10 of this prestigious chart.
BTS's connection with the BBMAs began in 2017 when they won Top Social Artist. The group won the award every year through 2021. BTS also claimed victories in categories like Top Duo/Group (2019, 2021, 2022), Top Song Sales Artist(2021–2022), and Top Selling Song (2021–2022), bringing their total to 12 trophies.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift emerged as the biggest winner at this year's BBMAs, taking home 10 awards, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Artist.
