NewJeans Confirms Performance at Japan Record Awards After Winning for the Second Consecutive Year
NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) has confirmed their participation in the prestigious 66th "Shining! Japan Record Awards," marking their second consecutive appearance following last year's win.
According to their agency ADOR, NewJeans will perform their Japanese debut single "Supernatural" during the live broadcast of the event, which will air on TBS at 5:30 PM on December 30.
Last month, NewJeans became the only foreign artist to win the Excellence Award for "Supernatural," a recognition given to 10 songs that have achieved immense popularity during the year. This marks their second consecutive Excellence Award, following last year's hit "Ditto." Notably, winners of the Excellence Award are automatically considered for the grand prize.
The Japan Record Awards, organized by the Japan Composer's Association, is Japan's oldest and most prestigious music awards ceremony. Established in 1959, it has become a hallmark of the Japanese music industry, with the event broadcast live every December 30 on TBS.
NewJeans officially debuted in Japan this June and have achieved significant milestones, including a successful fan meeting at Tokyo Dome. Their growing popularity has earned them invitations to major year-end music programs and festivals, showcasing their strong presence in Japan.
The group has already delivered celebrated performances on Fuji TV's "2024 FNS Music Festival" and TBS's "CDTV Live! Live! Christmas Special." They are set to appear on December 28 on NTV's "The Most Played Songs of the Year ~ Annual Music Awards 2024," marking their third consecutive invitation to this iconic year-end program, which highlights the most popular songs based on chart success.
On December 31, NewJeans will make history as the first K-pop girl group to perform at Japan's largest year-end indoor festival, "Countdown Japan 24/25."
In addition to their remarkable activities in Japan, NewJeans will also connect with fans through various year-end and early-year events in South Korea. Their packed schedule includes performances at KBS2's "2024 Music Bank Global Festival in Japan" on December 19, SBS's "Gayo Daejeon" on December 25, and the "2024 Asia Artist Awards (AAA)" on December 27. They will conclude the year with an appearance at MBC's "Gayo Daejejeon" on December 31 and begin 2025 with a performance at the 39th Golden Disc Awards on January 4.
With their consistent achievements and captivating performances, NewJeans continues to strengthen their influence both domestically and internationally. Their recognition at the Japan Record Awards and their growing presence in year-end festivals highlight their status as one of the most dynamic and impactful K-pop groups in the industry today.
