BLACKPINK's Jisoo ventures through hordes of zombies in her latest project, Newtopia, where she portrays a bold and determined character.
On December 26, Coupang Play unveiled character stills of Jisoo from the upcoming series Newtopia, showcasing her as Yeongju, a resolute military girlfriend navigating her way through a zombie-infested city.
The stills reveal Jisoo transformed into Yeongju, the "goddess of the engineering department." In one scene, she sits alone in a lecture hall full of male students in checkered shirts, followed by a moment where she receives an unexpected confession.
However, the tone shifts dramatically. Another still captures Yeongju's terrified expression, tears welling up in her eyes, as a sudden zombie outbreak unfolds, delivering a gripping sense of imminent danger.
A production team member commented, "Yeongju's determination shines through as she grips a golf club tightly, fighting her way through the zombie-filled streets of Seoul to reunite with her boyfriend."
Jisoo shared her thoughts on the role, saying, "I was drawn to Yeongju's charm from the very beginning. I wanted to bring her to life as best as I could. I hope viewers find joy in watching Yeongju grow."
Director Yoon Seong-hyun praised Jisoo's performance, noting, "Jisoo's quirky and humorous qualities matched Yeongju's character from the script with 99% accuracy. She brought the character to life even beyond what I had imagined."
Newtopia is an apocalyptic story based on the novel Influenza. It follows the journey of soldier Jaeyoon and military girlfriend Yeongju as they cross zombie-infested Seoul to reunite with each other.
Newtopia is set to premiere on February 7 at 8 p.m.
