The film The Black Nuns (directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae) teases a new level of horror.
On December 26, the production team of The Black Nuns unveiled a behind-the-scenes video, showcasing the actors' dedication to immersing themselves in their roles and the meticulous production process that brought the story to life.
Oh Hyo-jin, the executive producer at Filmsa Zip, shared, "The story began with the question, 'What if the Twelve Forms reappear in Korea, but without Choi Jun-ho and Kim Bum-shin to perform the exorcism?'"
The plot centers on two nuns who, despite being forbidden from performing exorcisms, embark on a forbidden ritual. Lee Jin-wook commented, "There are many films about exorcism, but this is the first time I've seen one where nuns take the lead in performing the rituals."
Song Hye-kyo stars as Sister Yunia, the film's central character. She described her role, saying, "She often acts impulsively and speaks without restraint. I think those traits will feel fresh and engaging in the film."
Efforts to enhance the film's realism were also a priority. Music director Kim Tae-sung revealed, "I put a lot of thought into amplifying the eerie moments of everyday life to their fullest extent."
The production aims to evoke both familiarity and unease by meticulously capturing cracks in everyday life. Art director Jo Hwa-sung added, "We worked to make familiar spaces feel unsettling, as though they had lost their balance."
The Black Nuns is the second installment following The Priests. The story revolves around individuals who confront a powerful evil spirit to save a boy, despite needing to resort to forbidden rituals. The film is set to premiere in theaters on January 24.
