ILLIT to Release Japanese Movie OST 'Almond Chocolate'

ILLIT will sing their first-ever movie OST.

Belift Lab announced on January 10, "ILLIT will release their Japanese original song Almond Chocolate on February 14. It was specially produced for a Japanese movie soundtrack."

The song will serve as the theme for the film I Don't Like You Just for Your Face, which tells the story of a female protagonist who has a crush on a handsome senior. ILLIT's sweet vocals are expected to enhance the film's emotional impact.

The movie is based on a popular manga of the same name, with over 2 million copies sold. It is especially beloved by female readers in their teens and twenties. News of ILLIT's participation has already sparked excitement in Japan.

Almond Chocolate expresses the passionate feelings one has for their favorite person. The lyrics reflect the emotions of the film's character Sainan (played by Kumada Rinka), with a cute and catchy melody.

The song boasts high production quality, featuring contributions from Nakajin, leader of the Japanese band SEKAI NO OWARI, and Pdogg, the producer behind BTS hits like Spring Day and Dynamite.

ILLIT shared their excitement: "We're thrilled to think that our voices will be heard in movie theaters. The lyrics are relatable for anyone who has a special person they adore."

A representative from their agency added, "The OST will be unveiled on Valentine's Day, ahead of the film's release. We expect it to build anticipation for the movie and become a new seasonal hit."

ILLIT is already gaining attention in Japan even before their official debut. The group won the Newcomer Award at the 66th Japan Record Awards, becoming the first K-pop girl group to achieve this in 13 years.

Their debut single Magnetic ranked highest among international artists on several Billboard Japan charts in 2024, including the Hot 100, TikTok Songs, Streaming Songs, and Download Songs charts.

Additionally, ILLIT appeared on major Japanese year-end music shows, such as Kohaku Uta Gassen and NTV's Most Listened Songs of the Year ~Annual Music Awards 2024, receiving positive responses.

Magnetic also ranked 8th on the Melon 2024 Year-End Chart, proving its enduring global popularity despite being released in March 2024.

The song also set a record as the fastest K-pop debut track to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (April 20 issue) and the UK Official Singles Top 100 (April 5 issue).
