Doyoung's First Performance in The Man Who Laughs

Doyoung, a member of NCT, is making his debut as a musical actor in "The Man Who Laughs". He will perform his first show on January 10 at the Opera Theater of the Seoul Arts Center. Ahead of the performance, Doyoung shared his honest thoughts and passion for musicals.

"When I step onto the stage, I will fully become 'Gwynplaine' and meet the audience," he said. "I'm nervous, but I'll give my all to the performance that I've prepared with the staff and fellow actors. Please give us your support."

"The Man Who Laughs" is set in 17th-century Britain, a time of severe class discrimination. The story highlights themes of human dignity and equality through the character of Gwynplaine, a man with a grotesque face but a pure heart.

Doyoung will play the lead role of Gwynplaine in the musical "The Man Who Laughs". Despite his grotesque appearance that makes others laugh, Gwynplaine's life is filled with pain and tragedy.

A production representative shared their thoughts on Doyoung's casting:
"Doyoung will express Gwynplaine's extreme suffering and tragic circumstances with his lyrical sensitivity and solid vocal skills. We have high expectations for his performance."

This marks Doyoung's return to the musical stage after nearly four years. In 2021, he impressed audiences with his portrayal of Axel von Fersen in "Marie Antoinette", receiving praise for his delicate emotional acting.

Meanwhile, "The Man Who Laughs" will run at the Seoul Arts Center's Opera Theater until March 9.
