Kim Shin-young Apologizes for Disparaging Virtual Idol PLAVE: "I Was Ignorant and Rude"

Broadcaster Kim Shin-young has issued an apology regarding her controversial remarks about virtual idol group PLAVE.

During the February 17 broadcast of MBC FM4U's 'Noon's Hope Song with Kim Shin-young', she addressed the issue, saying,
"Yesterday (February 16), I spoke about PLAVE. As many of you pointed out, I failed to keep up with the times."

What Happened?

On February 16, Kim Shin-young discussed PLAVE's latest release 'Dash' with rapper Hangzoo on her radio show. She commented that she couldn't adjust to virtual idols, expressing skepticism toward the group's music.

She also referenced PLAVE's guest appearance on another radio show, hosted by Go Young-bae, stating,
"They won't be able to come on our show. I'd probably get a reality check. Where am I even supposed to look if they aren't physically there?"

A Public Apology 📻

Acknowledging the backlash, Kim Shin-young delivered a sincere apology, admitting her remarks were not only ignorant but also disrespectful.

"PLAVE has worked incredibly hard until now. My words were beyond ignorance—they were rude. I now deeply realize the weight of my words and the responsibility that comes with them."

She further reflected on her role as a public figure, saying,
"There are times when I cross the line or speak without enough awareness. That's why I call my listeners 'Jung-hee Teachers' (a nickname for her audience)—I want you all to correct me when I make mistakes. I sincerely apologize once again."

She also mentioned she considered posting her apology on social media, but felt it was more appropriate to address the issue directly on air.
"I thought writing it out would feel even more insincere. I wanted to apologize with my own voice."

PLAVE: The Rising Virtual Idol Sensation 🚀

PLAVE, a five-member virtual idol group, debuted in March 2023 and has rapidly gained a strong following. Their latest mini-album 'Caligo Part 1', released on February 9, sold an impressive 1.03 million copies in its first week, proving their massive popularity.
