IU's New Iconic Role—"She Is Ae-soon"

IU has delivered one of the most powerful performances of her career. The actress and singer captivated audiences with her deeply immersive acting in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines (폭싹 속았수다).

On March 7, Netflix released Episodes 1–4, introducing viewers to Ae-soon (IU) and Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum)—two young souls navigating life's challenges in Jeju, told through the four seasons.

🎭 A Bold & Fiery Ae-soon

IU fully embodies her spirited Jeju-born character, Ae-soon, making a lasting impression from her very first scene. As a strong-willed student, she confidently declares,

"I'm going to marry a Seoul man!"

Her expressive micro-acting brings Ae-soon's emotions to life—whether it's excitement, determination, or heartbreak.

One standout moment? Her first kiss with Gwan-sik in a canola flower field. IU clenched her fists tightly, perfectly capturing the mix of anticipation and nervousness.

💔 A Journey Through Love & Loss

As the story unfolds, IU delivers a deeply moving performance, particularly when Ae-soon is forced into an arranged marriage with a widowed fisherman.

One scene in particular left audiences in tears—

"I think my mom is crying," Ae-soon says, her voice trembling.

From a joyful, rebellious girl to a woman carrying the weight of love and loss, IU seamlessly portrays Ae-soon's growth and struggles.

🌧 Heart-Wrenching Moments That Stay With You

The emotional climax comes when Ae-soon chases after Gwan-sik in the pouring rain, collapsing in front of the ocean, overwhelmed by sorrow. The rawness of her gut-wrenching cries made it an unforgettable moment.

Yet, Ae-soon's charm and humor also shine. She runs away to Busan with Gwan-sik, appearing in heavy makeup that doesn't suit her, bringing a lighthearted moment of laughter.

As the story progresses, she takes on the roles of mother and wife, fiercely protecting her daughter from a fate she doesn't want.

📺 A Performance That Has Everyone Talking

Despite only four episodes being released, IU's performance is receiving widespread acclaim. Fans praise her for delivering an unforgettable character, transitioning effortlessly between bold, loving, and heartbroken Ae-soon.

Weekly Release Schedule

When Life Gives You Tangerines drops new episodes every Friday at 4 PM KST for four weeks.
