FTISLAND's Choi Minhwan has returned to the stage, marking his first official performance since his hiatus.
On March 9, FTISLAND kicked off their '2025 FTISLAND LIVE PULSE in JAPAN' tour at Festival Hall in Osaka, where Choi Minhwan took his place behind the drums.
His overseas comeback continues with concerts on March 19 at Aichi Arts Theater and March 22–23 at Pacifico Yokohama National Hall.
However, his return to domestic activities remains uncertain.
🎸 FTISLAND's Two-Lineup Strategy—Three Members Overseas, Two in Korea
During his March 2 solo fan meeting, Lee Hongki addressed Minhwan's return, explaining the group's current structure:
"We will perform as a three-member band overseas, but for now, we will continue domestic promotions as a duo. Since some people in Korea are still uncomfortable, we must respect that."
Hongki also expressed hope for a future full-group comeback in Korea, saying:
"With time, I hope we can perform as three again. Until then, I will continue to guide Minhwan through this process, because FTISLAND needs a drummer."
🔍 Addressing the Controversy
Choi Minhwan halted all activities in October 2023 after his ex-wife, Yulhee, publicly accused him of visiting illicit establishments and inappropriate behavior.
Minhwan has denied all allegations, maintaining that he never engaged in illegal activities. In November 2023, he was formally cleared of any criminal charges related to the allegations of sexual misconduct.
He also countered by claiming Yulhee's actions contributed to their divorce, citing irregular sleeping habits, frequent absences from home, and neglect of childcare responsibilities. Yulhee has not responded publicly to these claims.
Currently, the former couple is locked in a legal dispute at family court, where Yulhee is seeking:
✔ Custody and guardianship modifications
✔ $1 billion KRW (approx. $7.5 million USD) in alimony and asset division
🎤 What's Next for FTISLAND?
While Minhwan resumes activities in Japan, FTISLAND will remain a duo in Korea for the foreseeable future.
With ongoing legal proceedings and mixed public reactions, only time will tell whether FTISLAND can fully reunite as three in their home country.
