[Dispatch = Reporter Myungjoo Lee] The movie The Match (directed by Kim Hyung-joo) has unveiled behind-the-scenes stories from its production.
On the 11th, By4M Studio uploaded a special making-of video on its official YouTube channel. Divided into three parts—"Challenge," "Cinema," and "Legendary Match"— the video dives into the film's journey.
🔥 "Challenge"—Commitment & Passion
The first segment highlights the dedication of the cast and crew. Since the film is based on the real-life story of legendary Go player Cho Hun-hyun, authenticity was a top priority.
Lee Byung-hun, who plays Cho Hun-hyun, shared his thoughts on taking the role: "It's such a dramatic story—I was immediately drawn to it."
His commitment was next level. Before filming, he personally met Cho Hun-hyun to get advice and even practiced with professional Go players to perfect the intense match scenes.
Actor Jo Woo-jin, who plays pro Go player Nam Ki-chul, recalled the atmosphere on set: "Everyone was incredibly immersed. You could feel how much effort was going into each scene."
🎬 "Cinema"—Attention to Detail
This part focuses on the production team's efforts to make the film as authentic as possible. "So many people still remember that era and these figures, so we paid extra attention to the smallest details," they explained.
One standout element? The costumes. Since Cho Hun-hyun was known for his stylish fashion, the team prepared around 50 outfits to match his real-life looks.
🏆 "Legendary Match"—A Deeper Message
The final part reflects on the film's core theme. Actress Moon Jung-hee shared her thoughts: "Life is full of battles—whether you win or lose, you always learn something."
Other cast members also encouraged audiences to watch: "Even if you know nothing about Go, you'll still enjoy this movie. It's about perseverance and fresh beginnings."
