The highly anticipated film The Match (directed by Kim Hyung-joo) has unveiled its behind-the-scenes story.
On March 11, BY4M STUDIO released a special making-of video on its official YouTube channel. The video, divided into sections titled "Challenge," "Film," and "Epic Match," gives viewers an inside look at the production process.
🔥 The Challenge: A Story Rooted in Authenticity
The first section, "Challenge," highlights the determination of the cast and crew. Given that the movie is based on the real-life story of Go legend Cho Hun-hyun, authenticity was a top priority.
Lee Byung-hun, who plays Cho Hun-hyun, shared his thoughts on joining the project:
"The story itself is so dramatic that I found myself naturally drawn to it."
His dedication to the role was remarkable. Before filming, he personally met Cho Hun-hyun to seek advice and practiced with professional Go players to perfect his moves for the intense match scenes.
Jo Woo-jin, who plays professional Go player Nam Ki-chul, recalled the filming experience, saying:
"The set was filled with an incredible level of immersion. Everyone was completely focused on making each scene as authentic as possible."
🎥 The Film: Attention to Every Detail
The "Film" segment shifts the focus to the production team's meticulous efforts. Given the historical significance of the era and the people involved, they paid special attention to even the smallest details.
One key aspect was the wardrobe. Since Cho Hun-hyun was known for his keen interest in fashion, the costume team prepared around 50 different outfits to match his signature style as closely as possible.
♟️ The Epic Match: More Than Just a Game
Finally, the "Epic Match" segment highlights the film's deeper message. Actress Moon Jung-hee shared her perspective, stating:
"Life is full of battles—whether it's victory or defeat, every moment is a lesson to reflect on."
The cast unanimously agreed that The Match is an inspiring film, even for those unfamiliar with Go. They described it as a story that resonates beyond the game itself, making it a must-watch for audiences of all backgrounds.
