BTS's Jungkook became a target of cybercrime as hackers stole his HYBE shares while he was serving in the military.
💻 Hacker Strikes While Jungkook Was in the Army
According to BigHit Music, Jungkook was hacked during his military training period. The hacker illegally accessed Jungkook's account and attempted to steal his HYBE shares.
"We immediately froze the account once the crime was detected and recovered the majority of the assets. For the amount that was already transferred, we've taken legal action and won," the agency confirmed.
📉 HYBE Stocks Worth 8.3 Billion KRW Stolen
The shocking incident took place in January last year, just as Jungkook had started his military service.
The hacker illegally opened a securities account under Jungkook's name and moved 33,500 HYBE shares (approx. 8.3 billion KRW / $6.2 million) without permission. Of those, 500 shares (approx. 100 million KRW / $75K) were sold to a third party.
⚖️ Jungkook Fights Back in Court — Wins Lawsuit
In March 2023, Jungkook filed a civil lawsuit demanding the return of his stolen shares.
Last month, the Seoul Western District Court ruled in Jungkook's favor, declaring that he was clearly a victim of identity theft. The third party who bought the shares was ordered to return them.
The court also pointed out that the buyer was grossly negligent for proceeding with the transaction without confirming the identity of the seller, despite being informed that the shares were major shareholder stock.
🔒 HYBE Steps Up Security After the Incident
Unfortunately, the hacker behind the theft has not yet been caught. BigHit Music stated, "We've implemented stronger security measures to protect the artist's personal and device information to prevent this from happening again."
💬 Fans React
ARMYs worldwide are furious over the news, praising Jungkook for taking legal action and urging authorities to track down the hacker.
