WINNER's Song Mino (32) is under scrutiny for alleged negligence in fulfilling his mandatory alternative military service, and he has reportedly admitted to most of the charges.
Violation of Military Service Rules
On March 31, a spokesperson from the National Police Agency stated during a press briefing:
"Song Mino has been summoned three times for questioning. He has largely admitted to leaving his assigned post during service hours."
Song is currently under investigation for violating the Military Service Act. While he reportedly denied the allegations during his first investigation in January, his agency previously claimed that his sick leaves were for treatment purposes and vacation days were taken within regulations.
However, during the third round of questioning last month, Song reportedly admitted to most of the accusations. Police have also conducted search and seizure operations, as well as analyzed his communication records, to gather more evidence.
Possible Service Extension
If found guilty, Song Mino may face an extension of his service period. According to Article 33 of Korea's Military Service Act, a public service worker who leaves their post without valid reason must serve five times the duration of the unauthorized absence.
Suspicious Leave Patterns
The controversy first arose in December 2024, when Dispatch revealed Song Mino had frequently used sick days and personal leave, allegedly skipping work on numerous occasions.
Though he cited panic disorder and social anxiety as reasons for medical leave, he was spotted at parties in coastal cities like Goseong and Yangyang during the same period. Former colleagues also raised red flags regarding his attendance issues.
The case is still under investigation.
