'Karma' Rises to No.1 in Korea — Critics Praise Plot as "Brilliant"

The latest Netflix Korean thriller 'Karma' is gaining global attention for its nonlinear storytelling and jaw-dropping twists.

🔍 A tangled tale of fate and consequences

Netflix dropped Karma (Korean title: 악연) on April 4, instantly claiming the No.1 spot on the "Top 10 Series in Korea" chart. The eight-episode thriller follows six characters bound by fate — and destroyed by the choices they make.

Starring Park Hae-soo, Shin Min-a, Lee Hee-jun, Kim Sung-kyun, Lee Kwang-soo, and Gong Seung-yeon, Karma dives deep into broken pasts, buried traumas, and revenge gone wrong.

💬 Critics are obsessed with the storytelling

Global outlets are raving about the series.
TIME writes: "Karma delivers much of its suspense through a nonlinear narrative."
Collider adds: "The storyline with which this is achieved is nothing short of brilliant."

"Karma is a gritty, realistic depiction of how greed spirals into tragedy. Its main plot is delicately and intricately structured," they added.

Each episode unfolds with unexpected turns, reinterpreting events from new angles and constantly shifting the audience's perspective.
"Director Lee Il-hyung takes a razor-sharp approach to a multi-layered story," notes Collider.

🎭 Powerful performances push the tension higher

The cast's emotional range is also being praised.

Collider applauds Park Hae-soo's performance, saying:
"Park gives a dynamic, volatile performance as the 'Eyeglasses Guy,' whom even other characters call a complete psychopath."

FandomWire highlights Shin Min-a's character Ju-yeon:
"She becomes the emotional core of the series, portraying inner pain and quiet sorrow with impressive depth."

Some critiques pointed out her storyline feels secondary.
"Ju-yeon seemed positioned as the emotional anchor, but was ultimately sidelined just when her arc started gaining ground," one outlet wrote.

But TIME offered a different take:
"She's the only character who escapes the spiral of vengeance. Instead of revenge, she chooses forgiveness and healing."

🌍 'Karma' is becoming 2025's must-watch K-thriller

FandomWire called Karma"one of the most satisfying releases of 2025," praising its shifting plotlines, moral ambiguity, and nonstop suspense.

With just 8 episodes, Karma cements its place as one of Korea's strongest entries in the global thriller space — and fans are already hoping for more.
