Executive A suspended, company launches internal investigation
🕵️♀️ Alcohol-Fueled Interview Sparks Public Outrage
Theborn Korea, the restaurant franchise company founded by celebrity chef Baek Jong-won, is facing backlash after reports surfaced of an executive allegedly conducting interviews over drinks with potential franchisees. The company confirmed on April 8 that the executive in question, known as Executive A, has been suspended from duties and is now under formal investigation.
🎥 YouTube Channel Reveals Hidden Audio
The scandal erupted when YouTube channel "Bansooik" released an audio recording on April 5 titled "Female Alcohol Interview Recording at Baek Jong-won's Theborn Korea." The whistleblower alleged that Executive A demanded a drinking session as part of the second-round interview process for opening a franchise in Yesan Market, South Chungcheong Province.
The whistleblower claimed, "I was contacted directly by the executive who said, 'Think of it as the second interview — you'll need to drink while we talk individually.'" The executive reportedly traveled to her area personally, further increasing pressure on the applicant.
🗣️ Inappropriate Remarks & Power Abuse
According to the recording, Executive A made inappropriate remarks, such as:
- "I have full authority."
- "I can arrange a meeting with CEO Baek himself."
- "Do you have a boyfriend?"
- "It's better if you don't."
She also alleged unwanted physical contact and claims that after rejecting further drinking invitations, she was subjected to unfair treatment in the selection process.
🧑💼 Theborn Responds: "Serious Internal Review Underway"
A representative from Theborn Korea told Dispatch,
"We view this matter with the utmost seriousness. An external professional agency will carry out a thorough investigation to determine if any illegal acts occurred."
The company clarified that Executive A was not solely in charge of the Yesan Market franchise recruitment and that further disciplinary action will be based on the investigation's outcome.

This controversy follows a series of recent legal issues involving the company, including:
