Actor Yoo Yeon-seok has received partial tax relief after successfully challenging a case of double taxation. The initial 7 billion KRW (~$5.1M) bill has been reduced to 3 billion KRW (~$2.2M).
⚖️ It Wasn't Tax Evasion—Just a Difference in Interpretation
According to his agency King Kong by Starship, "The issue wasn't about tax evasion or concealment. It stemmed from a difference in interpretation of tax law application."
The National Tax Service acknowledged the double taxation after Yoo submitted explanations through a pre-assessment review process. As a result, the assessed amount was adjusted.
💰 He's Already Paid—But the Legal Review Isn't Over
Yoo Yeon-seok has already paid the full revised amount, but his team plans to pursue further legal clarification regarding whether income from his agency, Forever Entertainment, should be subject to corporate tax or personal income tax.
"The main point now is whether applying personal income tax instead of corporate tax on agency earnings was appropriate," said a rep.
✅ Committed to Responsible Tax Practices
His agency stated, "Yoo Yeon-seok has always prioritized fulfilling his tax obligations with integrity. We'll continue to fully comply with all legal procedures."
🔍 Not the Only One in the Spotlight
Yoo Yeon-seok isn't alone. Actors Lee Ha-nee and Jo Jin-woong have also faced hefty tax reassessments recently. Like Yoo, they cited differing interpretations of tax laws rather than deliberate wrongdoing.
