Director Jung Yu-mi's Animated Short 'Glasses' Invited to Cannes Critics' Week — The Only Korean Entry This Year

K-animation shines at Cannes—Jung Yu-mi's 'Glasses' stands as Korea's sole representative at the prestigious film festival.

🎬 'Glasses' selected for 78th Cannes Critics' Week competition

On April 18 (KST), the French Critics' Association announced the lineup for the 78th Cannes International Film Festival's Critics' Week. Among the 10 official short film selections, Director Jung Yu-mi's animated short Glasses was named—a standout as the only animated work and the only Korean entry this year.

🏆 A near miss for Korea—saved by animation

If Glasses had not been invited, Korea would have gone unrepresented across all Cannes sections for the first time in 26 years. The short film now proudly carries the Korean flag at the prestigious event.

📖 About the film: healing through shadow play
Glasses tells the story of a child reconciling with their inner shadow—a poetic, symbolic narrative presented through beautifully stylized animation. The project was selected for production support by the Bucheon International Animation Festival.

🎥 What is Critics' Week?

Cannes Critics' Week (Semaine de la Critique), established in 1962, is a curated section led by the French Critics' Association, highlighting fresh, boundary-pushing voices in global cinema.

📆 Cannes Critics' Week 2025 runs from May 15 to 23
