WJSN's Yoo Yeonjung Cast in Musical 'Frida'—To Portray Passionate Artist in Dual Role

WJSN's Yoo Yeonjung is set to take on one of her most emotionally rich roles yet—as iconic artist Frida Kahlo in the acclaimed musical Frida.

On April 21, Starship Entertainment announced that Yoo has been cast in the role of "Memoria", a character representing both Frida's younger self and a parallel-universe version of the painter.

🎭 A Story of Art, Pain, and Passion

Now in its third run, Frida delves into the final days of the renowned Mexican artist. Since its premiere in 2022, the production has received widespread acclaim for its powerful storytelling and artistic depth.

The character Memoria is described as Frida's inner voice and childlike essence, reflecting her dreams, traumas, and enduring artistic spirit. Yoo Yeonjung will bring the role to life with her emotive vocals and delicate expressiveness.

💬 Yoo Yeonjung's Statement

"I'm honored to be part of such a meaningful production," she shared.
"Reading the script, I was deeply moved by Frida's unwavering passion for art. I hope to convey that same emotion to the audience through my performance as Memoria."

🎤 Rising Star of the Stage

Yoo is steadily building a name for herself in the musical world. Her past credits include:

  • Lizzie
  • Crash Landing on You: The Musical
  • Aloha, My Mothers
  • The Great Comet

Last September, she earned rave reviews for her powerhouse vocals and emotional depth in the third run of Lizzie.

Frida opens on June 17 at Interpark Uniplex Theater 1 in Seoul.
