A Japanese woman who suddenly kissed BTS member Jin during a fan event has been officially referred to the prosecution.
👮 Charged Under Sexual Crime Laws
On May 8, Seoul's Songpa Police Department handed over Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, to prosecutors on charges of indecent assault in a crowded public space, under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Ms. A recently returned to Korea voluntarily and turned herself in to police, according to reports.
📍 The Incident: June 13, 2023
The incident took place at Jin's military event "Jin's Greeting" held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium. During a meet-and-greet session where fans were allowed to hug Jin, Ms. A suddenly kissed him on the cheek—leading to widespread criticism and calls for legal action.
🕵️ Interpol & Investigation Timeline
In July 2023, Korean police requested assistance from Interpol to identify and locate Ms. A. Seven months later, they were able to formally book her in January 2024.
However, in March, the investigation was temporarily suspended due to her overseas residency. Under Korean legal procedures, if a suspect's whereabouts are unknown or they remain abroad for more than two months, the investigation may be paused.
🚨 Another Suspect Still Unaccounted For
A second woman, Ms. B, is also under investigation for a similar incident involving Jin. Her whereabouts remain unknown, and that case is still on hold.
