Thriller adaptation of hit webtoon promises gritty chemistry and powerhouse acting

On May 20, Netflix officially confirmed the production of its new original series 'The Rat' (literal title), based on the popular Kakao webtoon of the same name. The psychological thriller follows a recluse novelist and a relentless loan shark who team up to hunt down a mysterious man who ruined their lives.
✍️ Ryu Jun-yeol stars as Moon-jae, an author suffering from severe social anxiety. His isolated world crumbles when a cunning conman—nicknamed "field mouse"—steals everything from him.
💸 Sul Kyung-gu plays No-ja, a ruthless loan shark who's been tracking Moon-jae for unpaid debts. When they meet again three years later, Moon-jae asks No-ja to help him uncover the identity of the elusive criminal.
🔥 New duo, high expectations
This marks the first-ever collaboration between Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu—two of Korea's most critically acclaimed actors. Their intense screen presence is expected to elevate the high-stakes cat-and-mouse thriller to a whole new level.

The Rat will be directed by Kim Hong-sun, best known for Money Heist: Korea, The Guest, and Tangun. Known for his stylized direction and genre mastery, Kim's involvement has heightened anticipation.
The script comes from Lee Jae-gon, the screenwriter behind Voice, TEN, and A Model Family—a creator known for gripping, twist-laden storytelling.
