Netflix is ready to unleash a hard-hitting Korean noir. The Square, starring So Ji-sub, Lee Jun-hyuk, Gong Myung, and Choo Young-woo, premieres June 6 at 4 PM KST, and the newly released stills promise intense action and unrelenting ambition.
🔫 Revenge ignited — So Ji-sub returns to a world he left behind
In The Square (written by Yoo Ki-seong, directed by Choi Sung-eun), So Ji-sub plays Ki-joon, a man who once cut his own Achilles tendon to escape a brutal underworld known as "The Square." After 11 years of exile, he's pulled back into the shadows by the death of his younger brother Ki-seok (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), a former No. 2 in a criminal syndicate. Ki-joon sets out to uncover the truth—and exact revenge.
🩸 Power clashes: Bong-san vs. Ju-woon
Within the Square, two major syndicates rule:
- Bong-san, led by Koo Bong-san (Ahn Kil-kang)
- Ju-woon, led by Lee Ju-woon (Heo Joon-ho)
The balance of power is on the brink, and Ki-joon's return is the spark that may ignite war.
🧨 A new generation of dangerous ambition
- Gong Myung takes on the role of Koo Jun-mo, the ruthless heir to Bong-san, who will stop at nothing to fulfill his ambition.
- Choo Young-woo plays Lee Geum-son, a conflicted prosecutor and son of Ju-woon's boss. Despite his respectable position, he hides dark ambitions that could overturn the entire underworld.
- Jo Han-chul appears as Choi Sung-chul, Ju-woon's loyal right-hand man.
💣 Mystery players emerge
- Lee Beom-soo plays Shim Sung-won, head of the shady company "Enclean," responsible for cleaning up The Square's darkest dealings. He crosses paths with Ki-joon and may hold a key to Ki-seok's death.
- Cha Seung-won stars as Cha Young-do, a wildcard who belongs to neither Bong-san nor Ju-woon. With a piercing gaze and mysterious motives, he's poised to throw the entire Square into chaos.
