Choo Young-woo is set to win hearts once again—this time, as a sharp-tongued yet emotionally layered teen in tvN's upcoming youth romance drama Gyun-woo and the Celestial Maiden. On June 2, the production team unveiled the first stills of Choo in character, building anticipation for the series' premiere on June 23 at 8:50 PM KST.

💔 Choo Young-woo transforms into 'Bae Gyun-woo'

Choo plays Bae Gyun-woo, a boy born under a tragic fate. Burdened with a destiny of death since birth, he's grown up wary and guarded—especially when it comes to shamans. However, his life begins to shift when he meets Park Seong-ah (played by Jo Yi-hyun), a Gen Z shaman determined to rewrite fate.

📸 First stills capture his 'tsundere' charm

In the released stills, Gyun-woo visits Seong-ah's shrine with cold, suspicious eyes. His stiff body language and tense expression hint at a character who refuses to show vulnerability, but hides a much softer core.

🎯 Archery becomes his only escape

Despite his misfortunes, archery is Gyun-woo's one outlet. A still image shows him gently smiling while watching an arrow soar—revealing a fleeting glimpse of peace behind his otherwise stoic exterior.

"I was already a fan of the original webtoon," said Choo. "When I read the script, I was drawn in immediately. I felt it was the perfect chance to show a different side of myself as an actor."

Describing Gyun-woo, he added, "He's like a sad hedgehog—someone who sets up spikes to protect others, not to push them away. He may seem cold, but deep inside, he doesn't want anyone to get hurt because of him."
