Broadcaster Hong Jin-kyung has issued a public apology after being swept up in a political color controversy.
On June 3, Hong posted a handwritten apology on Instagram. The controversy stemmed from a photo she uploaded the day before, in which she wore a bright red top—a color often associated with a specific political party in Korea. The original post has since been deleted.
📍 Caught Off Guard While Abroad
In her statement, she first explained the delay in responding:
"I'm currently on a business trip overseas. Because of the time difference, I only just saw what was happening online."
😔 Acknowledging Her Mistake
"I've always felt sorry for celebrities who were misunderstood during election periods," she wrote, "and now I've made that same foolish mistake. I'm truly embarrassed."
Hong emphasized that there was no political intent behind the photo:
"The photos were taken two days ago at a shop in Stockholm. I simply thought the design was fun and posted it. I honestly didn't think about the shirt color."
📝 Sincere Reflection
Hong expressed deep regret, noting her extended time overseas may have dulled her awareness of sensitivities back home:
"I've been away from Korea for a while and may have lost some of the tension and awareness. Regardless of the reason, it was my mistake."
She concluded:
"Even if I had ten mouths, it wouldn't be enough to express how sorry I am. I sincerely apologize for causing confusion during such a sensitive time."
🎗️ Political Color Sensitivity in Spotlight
With the 21st Presidential Election underway, several celebrities — including Karina and Beenzino — have faced similar allegations over perceived political affiliations based on colors or captions. Both have clarified that no such intent was behind their posts.
