Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party has officially been elected as the 21st President of South Korea, kicking off his term at exactly 6:21 AM on June 4 KST.
🗳️ Historic Voter Support
According to the National Election Commission, Lee secured 49.42% of the total vote (17,287,513 votes), earning the highest-ever vote share for a Democratic Party candidate in Korean presidential election history.
📍 Gyeonggi Province Turns Blue
Lee dominated in Gyeonggi Province, Korea's most populous region with over 11.7 million voters. He earned 52.20% of the votes there, widening the gap significantly over his rivals.
🌊 Massive Support in Honam Region
Honam (Southwest Korea) gave Lee overwhelming support—85.9% in Jeonnam, 84.8% in Gwangju, and 82.7% in Jeonbuk, showing a strong push to end political extremism and stabilize democracy.
🏛️ Chungcheong Becomes the Barometer Again
Lee also performed solidly in the Chungcheong region, the traditional swing vote zone: 55.6% in Sejong, 48.5% in Daejeon, 47.7% in South Chungcheong, and 47.5% in North Chungcheong.
🏙️ Seoul Backs Lee—with a Few Holdouts
Nearly half of Seoul's voters (47.1%) went blue. Except for strong conservative districts like Yongsan, Seocho, Gangnam, and Songpa, most other areas—including Mapo, Seongdong, and Yangcheon—flipped to the Democratic side.
📉 Conservative Votes Fragmented
While the conservative base remained strong, it was divided. Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party took 41.15% (14,395,639 votes), while Reform Party candidate Lee Jun-seok claimed 8.34% (2,917,523 votes).
🗂️ No Transition Committee—Work Starts Now
With no transition period, President Lee immediately begins his term at the Yongsan Presidential Office. He is set to host a press conference later today to announce the new presidential staff lineup.
