Choo Young-woo is booked and busy. The rising star is set to appear in two new projects this June, continuing his momentum as one of Korea's most in-demand actors.
🔥 From noir action to high school romance
Choo Young-woo will star in the Netflix series The Square (written by Yoo Ki-sung, directed by Choi Sung-eun) and tvN's new Monday–Tuesday drama Gyunwoo and the Fairy (written by Yang Ji-hoon, directed by Kim Yong-wan).
The Square is a gritty noir-action drama. It follows a former gangster who returns to the organization 11 years after his younger brother's death, determined to uncover the truth behind it. Choo plays Lee Geum-son, the prosecutor son of a gang boss—cold, ambitious, and full of dark secrets. His unpredictable nature becomes a driving force in the story.
In Gyunwoo and the Fairy, Choo trades in suits for a school uniform. The drama tells a "first-love rescue" romance, where a Gen Z shaman girl struggles to save a boy fated to die. Choo plays Bae Gyunwoo, the shaman's cold but kind-hearted first love. Though stoic on the outside, he hides a warm heart that fears hurting others.
🎭 Dual success after back-to-back hits
Choo is once again aiming for a double hit in two very different genres. Earlier this year, he impressed with JTBC's Lady Ok's Tale and Netflix's Severe Trauma Center, solidifying his status as a breakout star.
His agency stated, "Choo Young-woo continues to prove his acting range through genre-specific performances. These upcoming projects will further cement his status as a rising powerhouse."
📅 Streaming & broadcast dates
The Square premieres worldwide on June 6 at 4 PM (KST) via Netflix.
Gyunwoo and the Fairy will air its first episode on June 23 at 8:50 PM (KST) on tvN.
