The Korean remake of Midnight Sun is going global—securing pre-sale deals in over 80 countries ahead of its official domestic release.
🌍 Sold to 83 countries across Asia, Europe & the Americas
Distributor BY4M Studio confirmed on June 4 that Midnight Sun has been pre-sold to 83 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Peru, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
The film originally premiered in Japan on May 19, where it received a warm response from local audiences. As a remake of the beloved Japanese romance of the same name, the story has been reimagined through a Korean lens nearly 20 years after the original's release.
🎶 A love that only shines at night
Directed by Cho Young-joon, Midnight Sun follows the emotional journey of two young lovers who can only meet after dark—chasing their dreams under moonlight while battling fate. The story blends heartfelt romance with a shared passion for music.
Starring Jung Ji-so and Cha Hak-yeon (N from VIXX), the film promises to deliver a modern yet timeless interpretation of the original tearjerker.
🎥 Original director praises Korean remake
Koizumi Norihiro, director of the original Japanese version, shared his excitement:
"It's an honor to see this story loved across the world. I'm proud that it continues to resonate, even after 20 years. I can't wait to see how the Korean version reinterprets it."
He strongly recommended the remake, adding:
"No matter where you're from, I hope you watch this film."
