Veteran entertainer Lee Kyung-kyu has clarified the controversy surrounding a recent incident, stating that it was all a misunderstanding linked to prescribed medication for his long-term panic disorder.
🚨 Mistaken Car Incident in Gangnam
On June 8, Lee was stopped by police after a stolen vehicle report was filed. It turned out he had mistakenly driven someone else's car that had been parked on the street. He thought it was his own vehicle while leaving a pharmacy in Nonhyeon-dong.
The police found Lee at the scene and conducted a breathalyzer test, which came back below the legal limit — confirming it was not a case of drunk driving.
💊 Drug Test Revealed Prescribed Medication
However, a rapid drug test later showed a positive result for benzodiazepine, a component found in the anti-anxiety medication Lee has reportedly been taking for over 10 years to manage panic disorder.
Lee's agency told Dispatch, "He had cold symptoms and was prescribed medicine at the hospital. After leaving the pharmacy, he mistakenly got into the wrong vehicle parked nearby."
He drove the car to his agency office in Hannam-dong, only to realize his bag was missing. He then returned to the pharmacy, where police found and questioned him.
🗣️ Fully Cooperating With Investigation
The agency added, "Lee fully cooperated with the police investigation and met with the car owner to explain and resolve the situation. He also submitted photos of his prescribed medication for panic disorder."
There were also reports that Lee had visited an indoor golf range, but the agency denied them, stating, "The golf range was in the same building as the pharmacy — he only went to the pharmacy."
👮 Police Investigation Ongoing
As of now, police have booked Lee for a possible violation of traffic laws involving medication. They are currently cross-checking the submitted documents with hospital records. A decision regarding a formal summons has yet to be made.
