Park Joon-hyung of legendary K-pop group g.o.d is taking the high road after a controversial remark labeled the group as "washed-up." Instead of lashing out, he comforted hurt fans.
On June 9, Park posted a heartfelt message on his personal social media, addressing recent comments made by Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju. The mayor reportedly referred to g.o.d as a "washed-up idol group" during the filming of KBS2's Immortal Songs: Gyeongju APEC Special.
🎙️ "We're fine — don't get hurt"
Park wrote, "No matter what anyone says, we're okay. It's not like we're new to this." He continued, "What matters most to me is that you don't get hurt by someone's careless words."
He urged fans to rise above it: "We're good, so you should be too. Don't let little things weigh you down—there's so much more ahead of us."
💥 Backlash from fans and audience
Mayor Joo's comment sparked immediate backlash—not just from g.o.d's fans, but also from audience members at the taping. Complaints poured into the official Gyeongju city website, with many demanding an official apology.

On June 10, Mayor Joo released a statement: "I sincerely apologize to those who felt uncomfortable. I had no intention of disparaging any artist."
He added, "I've always loved and appreciated g.o.d as an iconic group of my generation. I meant to express affection and nostalgia for their continued success."
He concluded, "I'll be more mindful in the future when communicating with the public. I apologize to g.o.d, the cast, audience, and fans who were present."
