"I didn't know the hangers were considered theft," says defendant
A sasaeng fan who illegally entered NewJeans' dorm and stole items has been sentenced to 10 months in prison by prosecutors.
🏛️ Court Hearing Held in Seoul
On June 11, the Seoul Western District Court held a trial for Defendant A, charged with unlawful trespassing and theft. Prosecutors demanded 10 months of imprisonment.
🚪 Breaking In Twice, Stealing Hangers and Banners
The incident took place on December 18, 2024, when A entered NewJeans' dorm in Yongsan, Seoul. A returned on December 21, taking hangers and promotional banners, and even uploaded photos of the empty dorm online. At the time, the group had already vacated the apartment after ending their contract with ADOR.
⚖️ Defense: "Not Intended as Theft"
A's attorney admitted to all charges but asked for leniency, emphasizing that A is remorseful and has cooperated with the investigation. They also argued, "The dorm was already vacated, and the defendant didn't think taking the items would qualify as theft."
💬 Apology in Tears: "Please Give Me One More Chance"
A, visibly emotional, read a handwritten statement in court:
"I made a huge mistake due to a reckless decision. I'm truly sorry for hurting the artists and their company."
A also shared that they dream of becoming a public servant, and have been writing letters of reflection daily. "Please give me a chance to start over. I want to take care of my sick mother and live a better life." A's mother was also present in court and reportedly cried during the hearing.
📌 The final verdict is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.
